St. Lawrence CE Primary School
St. Lawrence CE Primary School
The following policy will operate during the winter:
When overnight weather is bad enough to be likely to cause disruption and the possible closure of the school, then early morning consultation will take place between the primary and secondary schools before I make a decision. Any decision to close the school will be taken with the utmost reluctance, but with the safety of our children as the paramount consideration. It should be borne in mind that the decision is always made without the advantage of hindsight.
If weather conditions deteriorate whilst the school is in session please do not hesitate to call for your child at any stage of the school day. We will make decisions jointly with the secondary school about whether or not to ask school transport to make an early run. No child will be sent home early on school transport without telephone contact with the parent being made. This will avoid children returning to empty homes. If your household is likely to be empty, it is a good idea to make arrangements for your child to be able to go to another house. If you make such an arrangement please write a note authorising the school to contact the other adult if you are unavailable.
Children who do not travel on school transport will not be sent home during the school day. We will expect you or a surrogate authorised by you to call for your child. If both parents work outside the Stretton Hills where weather conditions may give a false indication of what it is like here, please arrange for another parent to make the decision for you.
Please contact the school if you are concerned about any of the above arrangements.
